Hi guys! Can you believe Christmas is less than 10 days away? It's totally blowing my mind. If you're wondering, no, I have not finished making all my presents yet, but I sure am trying!
Between overtime at work, blogging, and making my Christmas presents, there hasn't been a ton of time for me to partake in non-crafty Christmas activities, but yesterday my family and I got all gussied up and took in the matinee performance of The Nutcracker!
Seeing The Nutcracker is, hands down, one of my favorite holiday activities. Getting all dressed up and heading to the ballet is so much fun. There's always lots of amazing outfit-watching to do, and let me tell you, the old ladies and the little kids totally kill it, fashion wise! On top of that, the gorgeous sets and costumes, the amazing dancers, and the joy of the audience makes it such a special activity.
By the way, when I say gorgeous sets and costumes, I should mention that the Pacific Northwest Ballet's production of The Nutcracker features sets and costumes by Maurice Sendak. The whimsical set and costumes really make you feel as though you are watching a moving storybook, and you can't help but get completely drawn in.
This year, I got myself all gussied up in my current favorite fancy dress, a 1960s gold and black brocade beauty that I picked up at Trove Vintage Boutique a few months back. The day I found this dress I was more thrilled than I could possibly tell you! I've been dreaming of owning a 1960s brocade dress for year now, and was elated to find this amazing black and gold number in my size at one of my favorite vintage shops. This dress makes me feel like a million bucks, so I loved getting all dressed up in it for a lovely afternoon at the ballet.
Going to the ballet has totally gotten me into the Christmas spirit! This week at work is going to be totally nuts, but I'm already starting to get giddy about the upcoming holiday.
Have you done anything fun recently that's really gotten you into the holiday spirit?
Til next time!
-Becca

ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenn! I know, right??? How is it almost Christmas? I gotta get hopping on my gifts!
DeleteMAURICE SENDAK?!?! You lucky ducks. That's so neat that you went with your family. You prove that mustard yellow and gold surprisingly go together! Very cute.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty amazing! If you get a chance I would highly recommend a google image search of PNB The Nutcracker. You can get a decent glimpse at the amazing sets and costumes. Also, thank you very much!

ReplyDeleteElyse @ Cuddly as a Cactus
Golly, thank you! If it were up to me, I'd have big hair all the time. Unfortunately, that look only lasted through the photo taking and went flat almost immediately after. Oh, how I long for big hair... Dolly Parton big, even!
DeleteWow, Becca, stunning! I have almost the same vintage dress--it's gold with green flowers! Love the bits of yellow in the styling. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Your dress sounds amazing! You should do an outfit post just for kicks some day so you can share it!

Thanks, Elana! I wish I could get it to look like that for more than about 5 minutes. It was totally flat again by the time I got inside. :( I hope you're doing well, too! Enjoy your time off from school and have a wonderful holiday season!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Perfect hair? What a compliment!!! I pretty much just wrapped pieces around my curling iron and then hair sprayed the crap out of it. About 10 minutes later it was back to being flat as ever. I wish I could get my hair to actually stay styled like this!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful outfit! I love the pops of yellow ^___^ The only thing I've done to get ready for Christmas is procrastinate on finishing everyone's gifts! ~___^

ReplyDeleteWow! I love the ensemble. :) I almost didn't notice there was a brick wall behind you! Haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat gets me in the holiday spirit? Hanging up the stockings and baking Christmas themed treats are some examples of things that do it for me. I think that Christmas movies also contribute to the spirit greatly! It's interesting how popular culture is so intertwined with how we celebrate the holidays. Why wouldn't it be? :)
Thank you! Ah, those are some great things to get you in the Christmas spirit! I drove around looking at Christmas lights last night and it was the best!
