Hi Everyone!

Today I'm thrilled to share a guest post from one of my favorite bloggers, Kristina of Eccentric Owl! Kristina's blog is one of my favorites to read on a daily basis. Her style is amazing, she rocks retro looks like nobody's business, she's sweet as pie, AND she's a fellow Washingtonian! What could be better?

Today Kristina is here to share a tutorial for an amazing DIY Flower Crown, perfect for the fall. Check it out below, and then be sure to go check out her lovely blog, Eccentric Owl!

Hello, Ladyface Blog readers!

I'm Kristina from Eccentric Owl, and the beautiful Becca has asked me to guest post. So, in true crafty Becca fashion (although I'll admit, I'm much, much lazier doing DIY crafts than she is!) I decided to share with you all how to make your very own flower crown... fascinator... thing. Technically, it's probably not supposed to be called a "crown" because it doesn't go all the way around. But whatever! It's fun and easy and pretty. Let's get started! Supplies
You will need flowers, obviously, as well as a hot glue gun (and hopefully you stash your hot glue sticks with your hot glue gun, or you'll spend longer trying to find them than you did making the headband), scissors (maybe), newspaper or cardboard or a paper plate to keep the hot glue from messing up your table, and a headband. Any kind will do, but I prefer this plain metal one, and you'll see why later. The total cost of supplies for what I used to make this headband seriously came out to less than five dollars. (I mean, the flowers alone cost me $3 total, and I could make at least five headbands out of those three bouquets. So, you know.) Step 1
First of all, pull a few heads of the flowers off of their stems, and peel the leaves off of the stiff plastic thingies they're secured to (or, in the case of the darker green ones, cut them off of the middle attachment.) The leaves will be your base for the headband, so be sure to get enough! You can never have too many. Step 2
Glue your leaves onto the headband, making sure that they are securely glued to each other (more important than them being secured to the headband, actually.) Be sure they're positioned in such a way that you've got plenty of space to put flowers on, as this is what they're going to stick to. Step 3
If your flowers have long stems even after being pulled off of their arrangement, cut the stems as closely to the base of the flower as you can, so that they will easily lie whichever way you want them to go. Step 4
Roughly map out the design of your flowers on a flat surface. It's okay if they look wider than your headband, because when you glue them on you'll want to squish them in a bit to make sure there are no empty spaces. Step 5
Glue your flowers on, being sure to hold each one securely to the leaves until they are good and dry, or you'll end up dropping one on your dress and nearly hot-gluing flowers to yourself(you know. That happens. *ahem*). I generally have a main bunch of flowers planned, with a few extras to either side. Once you've gotten the biggest part of the arrangement glued on (usually 3-4 main flowers), take it to a mirror and try it on, and see whether or not you actually want more flowers. Sometimes, less is better. Step 6
Now here's the optional part, but the part I prefer, and this is why you want a metal headband: once the whole thing is dry, peel it all off of the headband. This way, you can pin it to your head whichever way you want, and it will be MUCH more comfortable to wear all day! Or, you can sew ribbons to the ends and tie it around your head. But if you bought a comfy (read: not cheap) headband and like the way it feels, you can skip this step! If you're not sure that all of the leaves are secured to each other, hot glue or sew them in strategic places so that your headband won't fall apart later. And you're done! Fin 2
Wear your headband everywhere, feel pretty, and bask in the glory of having made it all by yourself in less than 30 minutes. Also, please ignore my chipped fingernails.

I hope you all enjoyed this DIY, and have a wonderful day!

Lots of love,
Kristina.

Weekly Wardrobe- Warmer Days

Glasses: Andy Wolf/Similar
Belt: Anthropologie/Similar
Skirt: Anthropologie/Similar
Tights: Nordstrom
Shoes: J.Crew

Ok, guys, real talk: these photos were taken a few weeks ago. Yes, a few weeks ago it was, in fact, warm enough to be outdoors in just a t-shirt. Those days have passed at this point, and I'm piling on more and more layers. Most of the leaves have turned and are falling off the trees, and the daylight hours have shortened substantially.

But you know what? I love it. AND I totally love this outfit. Just add a sweater, a scarf, and a jacket, and this is totally perfect for the current fall weather!

Speaking of chilly weather, it was pretty darn chilly this weekend! And ya know what? It lent itself perfectly to my lazy lazy weekend. I did a whole lot of nothing this weekend, and it was awesome!  I got sick last week and got some news at work that is going to make this holiday season extra hectic, so I was really happy to have the opportunity to lay low.

While, I was realllll lazy, I did get some awesome stuff done. I came up with not one, but three Halloween costume ideas (finally!), made a delicious cake, which I will obviously share with you later this week, found an amazing 60s vintage dress at Trove Vintage that I couldn't leave without, did laundry, cleaned the house a bit, and started crocheting a new scarf! Ok, maybe I was busier than I thought...

Anyway, it was a wonderfully semi-lazy weekend, and I'm excited for the week ahead!

How was your weekend?

Til next time!

Weekly Wishlist: Cozy Coats under $275!

Alright guys, time for some real talk: I haven't bought a new winter coat in 6 years. Even more real talk: I have two winter coats and the other one is 10 years old. 10 years old! I got that sucker when I was 16!

Now, to be fair I've picked up jackets in more recent years, but still. My winter coats are shot to shit. The linings are falling apart, I've sewn the buttons back on more times than I can count, and they've had the pills shaved off of them about a million times. What can I say? I love them!

But guys, this is it. This is going to be the year that I buy myself a new winter coat. And ya know what? It's a good year to do it! There are so many gorgeous coats around.

The coats shown above are some of my very favorites out right now. I tend to like coats made from gorgeous fabrics, that are rather feminine, and feature lovely details. These ones all fit the ticket there!

When it comes down to it though, when I buy a coat, I'm really looking for an investment piece. I want something that's not too trendy, will look great for quite a few seasons (as witnessed by my current two winter coats!), and will keep me cozy. With all of these coats being under $275 (and a lot of them being under $200!), I'd consider any of these a great investment for the winter!

Til next time!

A Playlist to Rock Out To!

So, you know those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and need an instant pick-me-up? For some people that might be a cup of coffee, for others another 15 minutes sleeping, but for me, it's a really awesome playlist.

Now, there are awesome playlists of all kinds, but when I really want to pump myself up, smile my damn face off, and rock the hell out, it's going to be something punk inspired like this one.

This playlist is rad. It's got two of my Top 5 Favorite Bands (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and The Clash), lots of kick-ass ladies (X-Ray Spex, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Le Tigre, Sleigh Bells), and it spans quite a few decades (from the 70s through to the '10s (The '10s? Is that what this decade is called?)).

Anyway, it's great. If you need a good pick-me-up, if you need to rock-out, or if you've got yourself a punk rock heart, I hope this playlist will make you grin from ear to ear and make you feel like you can conquer the world!
Til next time!

Mulled Apple Cider

Hey guys! Today I'll be sharing my recipe for Mulled Apple Cider! Now this drink is delicious on its own, but if you want to get fancy and are looking for something boozy, I've got a good option for that, too!

This Mulled Apple Cider embodies fall. It's got the crisp taste of the apples, melded with the warm spices, all heated up into a nice cozy drink. It's perfect to whip up on a crisp fall day, and will make your house smell AMAZING. It's also incredibly easy to make, so we'll dive right into the recipe!
Mulled Apple Cider: Serves 4-8, depending on how big of a serving you would like!

Ingredients:
- 1/2 gallon apple cider, or unfiltered apple juice
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 pods star anise
- 4 pods cardamom
- 4 black peppercorns
- 8 whole cloves (appx. 1 tsp)
- 12 allspice berries (appx. 1/2 tsp)
- Bourbon (optional!)
1. Double up a 12" square of cheesecloth, and place the spices in the center. Then, tie the ends of the cheesecloth together or tie a piece of cooking twine around the top to make a little bundle of spices.

Note: You can also totally skip the cheesecloth, you'll just have to strain the spices out later.
2. Pour the cider into a large pot and add the sachet of spices. Then, bring the cider to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

3. Once the cider has come to a boil, remove the pot from the heat, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes (or more if you want!) to let the spices steep.
4. Once the spices have steeped into the cider to your liking, ladle your Mulled Apple Cider into cups and serve!
5. If you want to make a boozy version, just pour a shot's worth of bourbon (I used Bulleit, which is one of my favorites) into the cup before ladling the cider. Then, ladle that cider, give it a stir, and it's ready to serve!
How easy is that? This Mulled Apple Cider is a surprisingly-quick-to-put-together fall drink, that's a total crowd-pleaser. And once more for emphasis, it will, legit, make your house smell amazing.

I hope you get a chance to try it out soon!

Til next time!
