Hi guys! Sorry things were a little quiet around here last week- I majorly underestimated how tired I was from traveling and ended up going to bed real early a couple nights last week. It was also a busy week at work since it was a short one, and I kept quite busy over the long weekend!
So! This week, I'm finally getting around to posting about my trip to Colorado for my cousin's wedding. Ya'll, Colorado is gorgeous! Do you see those amazing rocks back there? That was the backdrop for my cousin's wedding. Could it have been any prettier? We also got lucky and had beyond gorgeous weather while we were there, so it couldn't have been a more perfect day for a wedding.
I don't know about you guys, but I tend to massively overthink what I'm going to wear to a wedding. I started getting this outfit together like, 3 months ahead of time, when I ordered this gorgeous printed dress from Boden. I had actually bought it just as a nice summer dress, but when I finally got it, I knew it was wedding outfit material. That, of course, meant I had to hide it away in my closet this whole time. Hey, what can I say? Sometimes a gal is prone to spilling on important articles of clothing! The same went for these gorgeous Swedish Hasbeens clogs. I ordered them, realized they'd go perfectly with the dress, and had to hide them away in my house for a couple of months. Ya'll, I've been ruining shoes in no time since I learned to walk. No, I'm not exaggerating- my mom tells me I wore through most of my baby shoes! I had to keep these puppies safe!
Well, before you guys start to think I'm some amazing planner and had this whole thing figured out months ahead of time, I can assure you that I spent a few hours running around town the night before we flew out trying to get everything together. I must say, it was a pretty fortuitous shopping trip: I found the perfect black cardigan (not pictured), which happened to be the very last one AND my size; I went to the store to buy some little pads for my shoes and was told they were out of every kind EXCEPT for the exact ones I needed; I found the perfect slipshorts to wear under this dress (Hey, some of us never have had and never will have a thigh gap. These things are necessary when rocking bare legs.); AND on a last ditch effort to find a clutch, I found this gorgeous number from J.Crew at my local store for 75% off! YASSSSSSSS! I wrapped up the outfit with a set of pearls I've had for ages, and this belt I picked up a few weeks ago.
All in all, it was a perfect outfit for the wedding. Cool enough to withstand the heat, great for dancing (which I did A LOT of), and super comfy!
Do you guys have any awesome tricks for planning your wedding outfits or are you running around like a madwoman at the last minute like I am?
XOXO

So wonderful to see you cousin!! I still can't get over those red rocks...
ReplyDeleteYou too, cousin! They were breathtaking!
DeleteSuper cute! The crown braid just perfectly rounds out the outfit. And I was about to say: the background is gorgeous and super picturesque too. Didnt know Colorado had red rocks like those.

Beautiful outfit and what a beautiful backdrop for your photos.
ReplyDeleteWith the braids and the shoes, this outfit feels really fun and cute and has a vintage flair! Love the print on the dress too! I need to get to Colorado! Looks beautiful!

Everything about this shoot was so beautiful! But the main thing I am excited about is my introduction to slipshorts. I had never heard of those before, and as a fellow non-thigh-gapper, as well as clumsy person who worries about falling in a short dress, I am not sure how I don't already own a pair.
ReplyDeleteLady, they will change your life. These are: my other favorites.. Seriously. Buy some immediately!
Deletethe shopping trip story is hilarious! love it. you look great as always : )
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely! My brother is getting married at the end of the year, and I'm already looking for dresses. If one is going to be in photos, one must look their best, right? ~___^ Also, those slip shorts look like a fantastic idea! I buy bike shorts a lot, but they can be a bit thick for wearing under more delicate dresses.
ReplyDeleteTotally! I linked to another one of my favorites in a comment above. You have to get some- they're so awesome.
DeleteThis outfit is so pretty! I am totally one to ruin clothing too - especially the spilling of food and drink on all the white clothes :) So exciting to see CO here, that's where I live! Is this at garden of the gods/ CO Springs?

Man, isn't it the worst? Maybe I'll get coordinated someday!
DeleteIt's near Littleton. I can't remember what the place was called but it was at some country club or golf course or something!
I sadly haven't been to a wedding in a few years (I really like attending them! its a fun dance party with food and loved ones!) but I imagine Ill have some to go to in the future, my boyfriend has about 7 friends who were recently engaged. I do want to say I really want a pair of Swedish Hasbeens, are they comfortable? Also I love that you admit you know what I do not and will not have a thigh gap so measures are needed to be taken when wearing dresses, Im with you there!

Agreed! Sounds like you'll have plenty of weddings coming up! And yes, they are! The leather is a bit stiff at first, so they take a bit of wearing in, but those shoe pads I linked help a ton (and can be cut down to size to go on the straps) and once you do have them worn in you can wear them all day!
DeleteAlso, totally. Even when I was a teenager and was way thinner my thighs rubbed together. Thigh gap just is not in the genetic cards for some of us, so slip shorts to the rescue!
Haha, I know! I don't know how I managed!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the best shopping trip ever! I recently discovered Target had high-waisted jeans, and I found a pair I loved on clearance for $15. I went back to try and find a black pair the next week, and I got the LAST pair in my size for only $9! It was awesome :) And you look GORGEOUS. Your planning in advance paid off! Also, I don't think many normal sized ladies have the infamous "thigh gap" I'm a size 4 and still wear biking shorts under dresses :) Thigh chafe ain't fun ;)

Woah, you are living the dream! Nice find, lady! And thank you very much! I used to be quite thin as a teenager, and even then I didn't have a thigh gap. I think it's not physically possible for some people.
DeleteWow! Pretty dress and beautiful background! I'm still laughing at the "thigh gap" comment because it's sooo true!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And, man, yes. Aesthetically I could care less about having a thigh gap, but practically it sounds like a dream come true! No chafing thighs? Yes please!
DeleteLove this look! What a sweet CO backdrop as well! :) I am such a sucker for navy! We have three weddings this summer, one this coming Friday and I have no idea what I'll be wearing (except for my sister's... because I'm the maid of honor.. :) ). Guess this is a good reminder to start perusing my closet for my outfit for Friday! :) XO-Alexandra

Thank you! Good call. I'm going to another wedding in a couple of weeks and haven't even THOUGHT about what I'm wearing to that one! I'm sure we'll both figure it out!
DeleteI love this whole outfit! And I was inspired to get the shoes. But seriously, are they comfortable? I have little patience for clunky shoes; not sure if logic or shopping wants will win out here:) I also life the dress. FYI: boden has a big sale going on right now if you need another dress....
