The thing is, while it is dark, and it is really cloudy for pretty much the whole of late fall and early winter, I still love it here. Once the leaves have changed and fallen from their branches, we're still surrounded by color. We have green grass, gorgeous evergreens, and are surrounded by water and mountains as pretty as pretty could be.
Lately, moving has been a hot topic of conversation in my friend group. And we're not talking just moving into a new apartment; people have other cities on their minds. Some are looking south to California or Austin, others to Chicago or other midwestern cities. In these conversations I always entertain different city options, but I know in my heart that I belong here.
I live in the city, but still, on sunny days I can see Mt. Rainier from my living room window, and even on grey days I can see the sun rise up from behind the Cascades and admire the gorgeous Olympic Mountain Range as I walk to work. Even on cold, rainy days you can appreciate that the water just makes the green look even greener.
When I'm away from this gorgeous state, my heart aches for the greenery, the water, the mountains. Washington, you have my heart.
What do you love most about your neck of the woods?
Til next time!

Very lovely outfit, love the skirt! xo

I love your "collared" jumper and the way your did your belt! I live in the capital city of my state, but I grew up in the country. I miss gum trees! They're kinda too big and dangerous to have in built up areas (they have a habit of dropping branches on things ... and people). (even the flora in Australia wants to hurt you! ~__^)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! I've never seen a gum tree in person, but the photos I've seen sure make them look lovely. I wouldn't have realized they were so dangerous!
DeleteOhhhh I really really like how this outfit looks all put together!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteI'm really digging the black and brown color combo for fall. I usually wear a lot of color. I understand your feelings about your city. You gotta love it, flaws and all. I'm from Texas and the heat usually chases people away but I love participating in the community and supporting local music.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I tend to be more colorful, too, most of the time! I've heard really great things about Texas. I'd love to visit some day!
DeleteLove the way you tied the belt, so unique! And oh, how I love a pair of evergreen tights :)

Thanks, Megan! I feel like I should pick up another pair. I always ruin tights and I love the color of these ones so much, I'll be crushed if they get worn out!
DeleteOh how I wish we had that sort of scenery here, but we don't have anything like that! Love your skirt!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorgeous? Washington blows me away all the time! Thanks, Victoria!
DeleteI just love the colours in this outfit! The skirt is a beauty! I'm having the same problem with lighting. Incredibly limiting...I'll never moan about summer again! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I know, right? I was baking a pie on Sunday and by the time I was done it was too dark to get any decent pictures. I can't wait for the days to start getting longer again.
DeleteSuper cute! Love that skirt :)

Thanks, Tiffany!
DeleteUgh, I hate that it gets dark so early now! 4:15 and it's already dark in NY! I hate it! On a nicer topic, you're outfit is so cute! I love your sweater!

Oof, that's rough. I think it was dark at that time here to day, too. Thank you for the sweet compliments!

I'm sure I've said this a dozen times before, but this is my new favorite outfit of yours! I LOVE this top/skirt/tights/everything. Also, this whole getting dark early business just isn't cutting it. It makes blogging so difficult! Also, can I just move to Washington and hang out with you all the time? Thanks.

Thanks, Elana! Also, duh! Come any time!
DeleteDarling, you look beautiful in this outfit. Your waist looks so itty-bitty! The sun has been setting around 4:45-5:00 here in New York and it really is quite depressing to make dinner plans with friends and walk on campus together while it's pitch black at 6 PM! But Washington really does sound beautiful. I'd love to travel there someday!

Oh, thank you so much! My waist is the only part of me I can make look remotely itty-bitty so I'm glad that's working! Haha! You should definitely come to Washington one day if you get a chance. It's a really really gorgeous part of the country!
DeleteYou look gorgeous! I love that skirt. This outfit is put together so perfectly!! Love your style

DeleteI live in Port Townsend WA so I totally understand what you mean! It gets dark so early here :( But like you said it's a beautiful place to live :) I'm totally digging your whole outfit too, very fall. You look warm and comfy but still super cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nicole! I love Port Townsend. It's completely gorgeous!
Deletei totally understand this sentiment (as much as i would love for you to come to austin!). i have friends who talk about portland, seattle, chicago, and brooklyn, but my heart will always reside in austin, and, probably, so will my body. it's my city and i belong here. i see that the pacific northwest fits you, and washington is just your size.
ReplyDeleteps. i need that sweater.
pps. these are the most beautiful photos. i love the one of you skipping, and the one with you looking away with your hands on your hips. hottay!

Nicole, your comments always make my day! Thank you so much :) I'd LOVE to come visit Austin one of these days. Maybe in 2014!
DeleteYeah it gets so dark here too, but after the long days of summer it's quite nice.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is gorgeous, especially teamed with that belt.
Hmm maybe...
Oh, I adore the long days in summer. I love having different seasons, but if we could keep summer's daylight hours all year, I would be thrilled!
DeleteThanks, Emma!
I love this! So great to hear your passion for your home state. I grew up in Eugene area and lived there until 23 so everything you said here made me nostalgic for "home". BUT… those grey days for months on end didn't mix well for me and just made me want to sleep all day and go out every night. Not the most productive years haha ;) The thing I love best about PHX is probably the weather but I long to live somewhere I'm more connected to. Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! I totally get that. I feel that in the winter when it gets grey for weeks and it can be rough. I gotta remember all the things I love about the northwest to keep myself going! I hope you start to feel more connected to Phoenix!
