Weekend Wardrobe: Late Summer Light

Top: ModCloth; Pocket Knife Necklace: Snash Jewelry, Belt: Anthropologie/Similar; Skirt: Anthropologie; Flats: ModCloth

Well, folks, it's been another busy weekend! I spent Friday picking berries with my mom (more on that later this week!), Saturday running errands, having a shopping trip with my friend, Michele, and working on projects, and Sunday I got to spend a good chunk of the day with Katie Marie V!

We began our day with a quick shopping trip in the U District, where I managed to actually find a pair of jeans that fit! After some shopping, we headed over to the frozen yogurt shop for a treat, and then headed towards the Ballard Chittenden Locks.

The Locks are a super cool spot! Basically, they were built to connect Lake Washington, Lake Union, and Salmon Bay to the Puget Sound. Those lakes are actually above sea level, so the locks are used to maintain that water level and prevent the mix of fresh water and salt water. That's all very technical, but they're cool!

And there's more than just that! There's also a fish ladder so the migration of fish, like salmon, can continue to happen even with the locks in place (Man, this is like the most Northwest-y post I've ever written!), and some gorgeous park space and botanical gardens.

Katie and I spent the afternoon roaming around and taking everything in. We particularly loved strolling through the park space and the botanical gardens since they stayed a bit less crowded. It was a pretty great afternoon!

The thing that really surprised me today was the light. After a few cool days I thought we'd completely returned to summer, but guys, can you see it? That light looks like fall. I'm going to drink in this gorgeous August weather as much as I can, but I think I'm going to be ready when the cooler days roll around.

What did you guys get up to this weekend?

Til next time!

  3. Your post brought me back to the town I spent the first few years of my life in. There was a small dam with a fish ladder and as kids we would spend a couple afternoons a year watching them all jump up it. It was pretty cool! Thanks for reminding me :)

  5. Sounds like a great weekend, and I see you're from the northwest-yay! I'm from Eugene and live in Oregon my first 23 years :) I love the textures of that skirt and I had a feeling it was Anthro. I went for a hike on Sunday and got over my cabin fever so that was fun!

    1. It was a good one! I didn't know you were from the northwest; that's awesome! Your weekend sounds like it was great. Cabin fever can be rough stuff. I've got some camping coming up this week, which should cure mine!

    1. Thanks, Laila! Fish ladders are the best! This one's fun because you can watch from the top, or you can go down and view the fish swimming like you're at an aquarium!

    1. Oof, that sounds awful! Part of the reason I love it here is that it rarely gets above the high 80s.

  12. Oh good! It's totally worth it. I'm not a big fan of most of the touristy stuff around town, but the locks are free AND super cool. I love visiting them in the winter months when they're less crowded and spending the afternoon there.

  14. i am not even shitting you, i tried on that skirt at the txsc swap on friday. it was a couple of sizes too big, so it didn't come home with me, but i wanted it SO BADLY. i couldn't believe anyone would ever consider getting rid of it! if it had fit, i almost definitely would have styled it with a navy striped tee too. stylish minds think alike!

  15. It sounds like you had a great weekend! I'll be really glad when it's fall too. It's my favorite and I'm sick of the heat!

Anyway, I am in love with your glasses. I really like how your striped top looks with the stripey pattern in your skirt too.
