The last week has been absolutely gorgeous! Unlike the last few weeks of grey days, this week has been cold, crisp, and sunny. Since it hasn't been grey, there have been GORGEOUS sunrises (which you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram!), the mountains are all out, and the skies are blue as can be! It's been really, really amazing. If the rest of fall and winter could be like this, I would be more thrilled than I could possibly say!

Well, you may recall that I've been on the hunt for a new winter coat. After searching and searching, I happened upon my dream coat last Sunday! On my usual Sunday errand running outing, I walked into Trove Vintage in Ballard (obviously I was avoiding the errands) and found this gem of a coat you can see me wearing above. 1960s vintage, baby blue wool, faux fur collar and cuffs, and MY SIZE! I was so thrilled. The best part was it cost about a quarter of what I had been prepared to spend on a winter coat, so I was SUPER pumped.

Needless to say, since the weather has been so gorgeous, but so chilly, I've been wearing this baby everywhere. Everywhere, including out and about with Katie on Saturday! Initially Katie and I headed to Carkeek Park to walk around and check out some of the salmon swimming back to their home creeks. If you are not aware, when salmon swim back from the ocean, they return to the creeks in which they were born, but since it's such  long journey, they usually die within 2-4 weeks of returning, generally after they've mated and laid eggs. This is legitimately stuff we learn about in school in Washington.

Well, Katie, a fellow Washington native, had somehow blocked this from her memory. Turns out we visited this creek a bit late in the season, and there were tons of dead salmon around. Needless to say, Katie was a bit traumatized. Sorry Katie! Between that and the crowds at the park, we decided to go to a different park. We were both glad we did because we found this lovely little trail where these photos were taken!

Now that the weekend has wrapped up, I'm totally excited about Thanksgiving this week! Not only is it a short week followed by a nice long weekend, but I adore Thanksgiving and can't wait to cook and eat a bunch of tasty food and spend time with my lovely family. My mom's birthday is on Friday, too, so there will be lots of family time this week. I can't wait!

Do you guys have any fun plans for your week? If you're in the US do you have any fun Thanksgiving plans?

Til next time!

  4. I definitely remember learning a lot about salmon in Oregon too but blocked it from my memory as well :) Chilly and sunny is my favorite weather! I am so in love with that coat and my first thought when seeing these pics is remembering you talking about getting a new coat. I love what you ended up getting and even better that it's vintage! Enjoy your holiday week!

  6. I am still traumatized by all of those dead, stinky salmon. I honestly think I blocked out that part of the salmon journey from my head.

  11. That coat! OH my goodness. I seriously need to get out and about and into some local vintage shops, because my fingers are itching to just rifle through the pretty fabrics... sigh. I love this whole outfit, though, and your hair! So, so cute.
Haha, poor Katie! That is unfortunate to be visiting right when all the Salmon are dead. :/ I hope she wasn't TOO traumatized. But at least the park was pretty otherwise!
We're spending Thanksgiving with both sides, and revealing our baby's name to everyone on Thanksgiving. I'm super excited; I got his initials in wooden letters, and I have them painted for his nursery, so we'll show people a picture and let them try to guess a name before we say what it really is. It should be fun! I'm also trying two Paleo dessert recipes, both of which sound amazing... so hopefully they actually turn out seeing as how I've never made them before...
    Happy Monday!

  20. OMG that COAT! What a score. It looks like it was made for you! Also, love the Heidi hairdo--cute little braids like that are what make me toy with the idea of growing my hair out on a yearly basis. But I've been sporting a pixie for almost 15 years now, so who am I kidding, I am too lazy to have to fuss with long hair! ;)

    1. Thank you so much, Marlene! I had my hair cut to chin length or shorter for years and years. At some point I realized that I didn't even know what I would look like with long hair, so I grew it out to try something new. I know, the opposite of how people usual go with their hair!
